(May 23, 1927 – January 28, 2007) Chico Chism recorded with some of the most important figures in the Blues, like: Howlin’ Wolf, Bo Diddley, Big Joe Turner, Sonny Boy Williamson II, Roscoe Gordon, Little Jr Parker, Little Milton, and Jimmy Rogers; and will undoubtedly be remembered as a legendary session player behind the drums. He was the Howlin’ Wolf’s last drummer and walked tall everyday of his life like the Wolf was right by his side. In 1986 Chico left Chicago and relocated to Phoenix at the invitation of harmonica player Bob Corritore. Chico would spend his remaining years in Phoenix, becoming a local blues celebrity and a fixture at the Rhythm Room concert club. Through his friendship with Bob Corritore, Chico was as a key Phoenix session player on recordings with: RL Burnside, Henry Gray, Jimmy Rogers, Pinetop Perkins, Mojo Buford, Louisiana Red and others. Chico passed in 2007, he was beloved by the community and remembered as a master drummer.
